Blog #27: National Hydration Day
This day began in 2006, and it is all about…you guessed it…hydration. June 23rd focuses on the importance of drinking fluids, not just water, annually. Staying hydrated will help your overall body function, regulate body temperature, and help organs function properly. Today also highlights the importance of access to healthy drinking water for all.
Many people do not drink enough water, especially the elderly. As you get older, your total body water becomes less. Meaning, you will need to drink more water to compensate the bodily loss. Taking medications can also cause water losses. Today is a great day to remind someone to drink enough water!
Blog post #9c talks about water and hydration in more detail (go check out that blog post for more tips!). You can keep track of your water intake with an app or your phone calendar. Special water bottles can be used to help keep track as well. Eating foods that have high water content, like watermelon, can also help with hydration. To ensure clean and safe drinking water for all, you can donate cases of water to food banks, churches, shelters, among other community organizations.
I challenge you to drink at least 64 ounces of water each day. That would be about 8 cups per day. Get creative and flavorful about it!
